The quickest way to unprofessionalism and filing for bankruptcy as a blogger is using just any photo you find on the internet. I know, Google and Pinterest have the prettiest photos and it will look very good on your blog, but legally it’s not such a good idea, so I recommend you don’t use photos you don’t have permission for, using a credit is not enough.
I personally know as a photographer how annoying it is when people use your work without permission. It’s not only a money thing, it’s also a brand thing. Sometimes you just don’t want to affiliate with certain brands.
Thankfully for all bloggers, stock photos aren’t what they used to, there’s so much more now than just the standard ‘item with a white background’ and ‘people in suits shaking hands’.
The secret to finding awesome stock photos you can use for free is using as many sites possible to find your perfect photo!
Now, here’s a small warning, when you want to use these photos commercially, for example, the cover of your ebook, it’s a different story, so make sure you always read the license that comes with the photo.
Many of these photographs are free from copyright restrictions or licensed under creative commons public domain dedication. This means you can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.
However, some photos may require attribution.
