We all know what it’s like to be in the presence of a great coach. At one time or another in our lives, we’ve come into contact with somebody who has inspired us in ways we thought were impossible. Great coaches aren’t passive people. They’re active, and they’re always looking for new ways to help their clients. They understand that each individual they come into contact with is different. Habit 2: Successful Coaches Are Curious

That’s why curiosity is a great habit for coaches. Curiosity gives you some important capacities that will supercharge your career. The first is being able to listen to views of people you don’t agree with and being open to new ideas. Your clients are motivated by their ideas, and so if they are wrong, you need to be able to find out about them and work with them. Showing them where their ideas are wrong, rather than opposing them, is an effective coaching technique. The other main benefit is that you get to find out more about your client’s real strengths and weaknesses. Often people will emphasize their strengths and hide their weaknesses. But these aspects of their personality need to be explored before coaching can proceed effectively.

Habit 3: Make Students Teach You

Habit 4: Write Down Goals For Each Session

Students want to know what they are going to get out of each session. It’s a good idea, therefore, for coaches to write down goals and learning objectives, every time they meet. This helps to make sessions more focused and gives students key takeaways.
