If you feel your mental and physical wellbeing taking a hit, then you should do something about it before you feel too far gone. If just one of them seems to be suffering, then it likely won’t be long until they both are. The mental and physical go hand in hand, so keeping them both on top form is a must. Below, you’ll find 8 things you can do to improve your mental and physical well being. Read on to get started…

Spend Time With The People You Love

Make sure you’re spending enough time with the people who matter to you. Arrange catch ups as regularly as you can. It can be difficult when life gets in the way, but staying in touch with your support network will make a huge difference to how you feel.

Do Something Creative

Creativity can increase confidence and self esteem, and it can serve as a great distraction if you need it. It’s also a great way to get into the ‘flow’ state, which is where you forget time and space and just focus on what you’re doing. Not to mention it can be a lot of fun! You don’t have to be ‘good’ at something to do it. Just pick something and have a go!

Sleep Well

Aim for 7-9 hours a night. Get ready for bed early and aim to wind down – stay off your phone after 8pm, don’t watch the TV, and read a book instead. Dim the lights and do everything you can to fall asleep earlier. Consistency is key with keeping this up, so make sure you do it even on weekends.

Go To That Appointment You’ve Been Avoiding

If you’ve been avoiding an important health appointment, it’s time to get it booked and go. Something like getting your wisdom teeth removed can be really scary, but avoiding it can be worse. You could cause so many more problems if you wait for too long.

Eat Well

Take the time to make yourself healthy meals – this doesn’t mean solely salads, but nutritious, filling meals made from natural ingredients. Balance is key when it comes to your diet.

Be Mindful

Stay mindful. What are you thinking about right now? How are you feeling? Why do you think you feel this way? Why did you react that way to your co-worker yesterday? Being more mindful allows you to control your emotions better, avoiding knee jerk reactions that could cause problems. It also helps you to get to know yourself and your motivations better.

Adopt Good Habits and Avoid Bad Habits

Avoid excessive drinking, smoking, and things like dwelling on the negative. Take it one step at a time and adopt better habits. Drink lots of water every day, get 30 minutes of exercise, and practice gratitude.

Get Help If You Need It

There’s no shame in needing help. Get it if you need it! Counseling or therapy could be just what you need to help you sort through your baggage.
